Apart from the city, the same-named municipality also includes Spaarndam's western part, while Spaarndam's newer districts are within the municipality Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude. The contemporary Haarlem City encompasses a former municipality (Schoten) plus parts that previously were part of Heemstede and Bloemendaal. The city has population around 205,000 (metro over 420,000) and is just a 15-min train ride from the country's capital Amsterdam. Haarlem is located at the northern tip of Randstad - one of Europe's most populated metro regions. Haarlem is a Spaarne River cruise port and the capital city of The Netherlands's North Holland province. ![]()
